15 Years of Yocuda: Processing 2.6+ Billion Digital Receipts Across 50+ Countries

Fifteen years ago, digital receipts certainly weren’t part of mainstream retail and were barely understood. Most paper receipts were still printed automatically. Sustainability wasn’t yet a board-level priority. “Retail media” wasn’t a headline strategy, and “omnichannel” was a buzzword rather than a reality.

When Yocuda started, retail looked very different. Digital receipts were still a concept and unproven at scale. Today, they’re an essential part of the in-store checkout and post-purchase experience.

As Yocuda turns 15, we’ve been reflecting not just on how much we’ve grown - but on how much the entire retail landscape has evolved alongside us.

From paper alternative to a high-performance communications channel

When we started, the conversation with retailers was simple: identify customers, reduce paper, and improve the customer experience.

Fast-forward to 2026, and digital receipts have become something far more powerful.

They now sit at the heart of:

  • In-store customer identification
  • First-party data and CRM strategy
  • Loyalty growth
  • Retail media monetisation
  • Omnichannel engagement
  • Sustainability initiatives
  • Reducing print and paper costs

What was once seen as a functional improvement is now a measurable revenue and engagement channel. We’ve had a front-row seat to that transformation, watching as countries took legal steps and introduced legislation to reduce paper receipts. For example, France’s introduction of its ambitious Anti-Waste and Circular Economy (AGEC) law in 2023, and, more recently, Italy's approval of a new resolution that confirms a ban on automatically printing paper receipts and mandates replacing traditional receipts with digital alternatives.

15 Years of innovation in numbers

Over the past 15 years, Yocuda has:

  • Processed over 2.6 billion digital receipts
  • Reduced 6,500 tonnes of carbon for retailers
  • Equivalent to the carbon absorption of 298,000 trees, or flying around the world 10 times
  • Identified more than 261 million customers
  • Launched in over 50 countries
  • Seen a Yocuda receipt opened every second, on average

Behind those numbers are real interactions. Real customers. Real moments of engagement after a purchase. Every open represents an opportunity for brands to connect with the customer beyond their store visit. To drive loyalty sign-ups, provide personalised offers, unlock retail media revenue, all while helping to create a single view of the customer.

Built by an incredible team and a strong partner ecosystem

No company reaches its 15th anniversary without strong foundations. One of the things we’re most proud of is the team we’ve built. Across product, engineering, partnerships, customer success and marketing, our people have grown alongside the business.

Many have been part of the journey for years. They’ve helped retailers navigate complex POS integrations, global rollouts, evolving compliance requirements, and rapidly changing consumer expectations.

And as retail technology doesn’t operate in silos, neither do we. Over time, we’ve built a solid partner ecosystem spanning POS providers, payment service providers, CRM and marketing platforms and more.

Trusted by global retailers

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with fantastic global brands across grocery, fashion, luxury, sportswear, cosmetics, jewellery and other speciality retail, with brands such as Longchamp, M&S, Argos, Fred Perry, Sephora and Decathlon who trust Yocuda to handle millions of transactions and customer touchpoints.

As retail has become more competitive, more data-driven and more experience-led, retailers need partners who understand that complexity.

As part of the Global Blue and Shift4 family, and thanks to our international exposure, we have worked with a wide variety of fiscal legislation, meaning we are trusted when it comes to supporting any country’s requirements and integrating with either hardware or software fiscal solutions.

Fifteen years in the market brings perspective. It brings a lot of learning. And it brings a track record of delivering at scale.

The Next Chapter

Reaching 15 years is a fantastic milestone, but it isn’t the finish line.

The receipt is no longer just a proof of purchase; it’s a strategic customer engagement touchpoint, and we believe its role in retail will only continue to expand.

To our clients, partners and team - thank you for being part of the journey.

2.6 billion receipts later, we’re just getting started.
